Geeklings discover Lego Dots

We love Lego. There, I said it.
The latest Lego novelty is Lego Dots. This 2D tile-based play concepts makes it possible to create all kinds of things. From wearables (bracelets) to room décor (photo cubes, a jewellery holder and pencil holder). The tiles are small, so I understand why Lego says it's for children who are six years or older. That being said.. I don't really believe in these restrictions, especially when an aldult is present to supervise and help out.

I ordered two bracelet sets for my girls (5 and 3 years old). A lot of the products were already sold out, but I found designs I hoped they'd like. A jungle/Tropical Birds theme for my youngest and Funky Animals theme for my oldest. When they arrived I was a bit disappointed by the packaging, I know the sets are quite cheap, but I just like cardboard better than plastic.

Making your bracelet is very easy, just put the tiles on the bracelet. The bracelet itself is sturdy but flexible and fits on any wrists and closes easily, and the tiles really don't fall off. Even for my youngest it was easy to make the bracelet, despite the size of the tiles. Making the bracelet will keep children busy for some time, especially the perfectionists like my eldest.

My girls and I love Lego Dots, but have one more criticism: Lego supplies more tiles than you need, even if you want to fill the whole bracelet. This is nice, and gives you the opportunity to change it if you like. But.. how to save these tiles from getting lost?? A resealable bag would be nice, but this is not included. I guess storage for Lego Dots will be available in time.. Check out all Lego Dots products here.

He protects, he attacks, he also takes naps.. Baby Yoda is loved by everyone. Geeklings ánd their parents. Mine are too young for the Mandalorian, but are in love with the green child already. Mark Bezembinder (@maaku.art) created this beautiful artwork.

We were all waiting for the merchandise, and it's finally here! There is something for every budget. If you are going for ultra realistic then you need to fork out $350. But the lifesize model by Sideshow Collectibles looks amazing. You can pre-order your own here.

Lego releases two BrickHeadz, the Mandalorian and the Child, sold together for €18,95. You can strap a blaster rifle to The Mandalorian’s back and put a blaster pistol in this bounty hunter’s hand. Create a hoverpram for the Child and adjust its ears for happy and sad expressions.

Hasbro's best is surely the animatronic, sold for a reasonable €69,99. He can move his head, eyes and ears and has a lot of sound effects, such as happy, excited, tired and sleeping sounds. He can even act like he uses the force, by lifting his hand, closing his eyes and sighing.

More merchandise can be found here on Zavvi, such as Funko's, pluches and shirts.

Papercraft your own
But you don't need a lot of money, and don't have to wait to own your own baby Yoda.. you can also make cute baby Yoda (paper)crafts. Your Geeklings will love to make something with you. You can start with easier papercrafts such as this printable, or the cubee baby Yoda. A lot more complex is this 3D model, for older children or parents. And if you're not into papercraft, why not make this hot bead model I found on Instagram?

Great news for Lego fans, the Netherlands is getting not one, but two offical Lego Stores! In Utrecht and in Amsterdam. The Lego Store in Utrecht can be found in Hoog Catherijne and opens it's doors in October.

The brand-new flagship Lego store will offer a whole range of exciting Lego retail innovations like Mosaic Maker, as well as brand new play experiences and brick-building possibilities, with a nod to Dutch history and culture. I am excited to see how. Other in-store play experiences and activities include;

- Brick Specialists - Lego specialist who will help you find a set that’s the perfect fit
- Pick & Build Wall - choose the bricks and elements you want in all different shapes and colours. So grab a cup and fill it up with whatever pieces you choose!
- Digital Box - where you can scan almost any boxed LEGO set and see the model come to life in 3D.
- Hands-on play opportunities, including free build challenges and events each month
- Build a Mini Tower where you can mix and match from a wide selection of bottoms, tops, heads, hair pieces and accessories to customize your own minifigures.

These brand-new Lego store’s will offer the full range of new products only available in these stores and shop.lego.com, such as the Lego Stranger Things: The Upside Down. Lego VIP members get VIP gifts with purchase, double point events and much more. The Utrecht Lego store will be opening its doors during the autumn holiday, from 17 - 23 October. This coincides with the Lego World event in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. According to Lego we can expect grand opening events, promotions and experiences.. The opening of the Lego store in Amsterdam will follow later this year.
