Great news for Lego fans, the Netherlands is getting not one, but two offical Lego Stores! In Utrecht and in Amsterdam. The Lego Store in Utrecht can be found in Hoog Catherijne and opens it's doors in October. The brand-new flagship Lego store will offer a whole range of exciting Lego retail innovations like Mosaic Maker, as well as brand new play experiences and brick-building possibilities, with a nod to Dutch history and culture. I am excited to see how. Other in-store play experiences and activities include; - Brick Specialists - Lego specialist who will help you find a set that’s the perfect fit - Pick & Build Wall - choose the bricks and elements you want in all different shapes and colours. So grab a cup and fill it up with whatever pieces you choose! - Digital Box - where you can scan almost any boxed LEGO set and see the model come to life in 3D. - Hands-on play opportunities, including free build challenges and events each month - Build a Mini Tower where you can mix and match from a wide selection of bottoms, tops, heads, hair pieces and accessories to customize your own minifigures. These brand-new Lego store’s will offer the full range of new products only available in these stores and shop.lego.com, such as the Lego Stranger Things: The Upside Down. Lego VIP members get VIP gifts with purchase, double point events and much more. The Utrecht Lego store will be opening its doors during the autumn holiday, from 17 - 23 October. This coincides with the Lego World event in the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. According to Lego we can expect grand opening events, promotions and experiences.. The opening of the Lego store in Amsterdam will follow later this year.

Fandoms.. even small kids have them.. My Geeklings have some favorite tv-shows, and Spongebob is one of them. I like watching the yellow sponge too (have seen some episodes too often now). My girls will even refer to an hamburger as an krabburger..(krabby patty).
Spongebob, and other well loved shows for young kids are all from Nickelodeon. Paw patrol, Dora, Huize Herrie (The Loud House), The Fairly Odd Parents and many more. Let's not forget the amazing Avatar! Nickelodeon does a lot of cool promotional things for kids, like an Familie Festival, last weekend. But Nickelodeon Nederland also goes on tour! In your local mall you can meet the characters and take a picture with them. When we visited the tour you could also get an glitter tattoo, and make a mask of your favourite Nickelodeon star. It is professional, the people are great, and it's completely free. I can recommend it! The tour is still in Alexandrium Shopping Center in Rotterdam until the 31th of august. Follow the Nickelodeon FB in your country to see when they come near you. For the Netherlands: @NickelodeonNL They have been on the market for a while, but autumn is almost here.. so, should I buy my Geeklings some Cubcoats? It is a cool combination, of a hoodie that turns into a stuffed animal (or visa versa). The signature series are animals, like a cat, dog, fox or a panda. In the character series however, you'll find Star Wars characters, Mickey and Mini Mouse, Bob the Minion and Poppy the troll. All new are the Marvel characters: Black Panther, Spiderman, Captain America and Iron Man. The signature Cubcoats are $45 and the special character cost $50. You can find them at: https://cubcoats.com/ It's been way too long since I posted here. Work got in the way, but I'm back now! Starting with a throwback to the last edition of the Elf Fantasy Fair, last april. We were so excited as a family, going to Elfia is a outing we all love. Even if the girls didn't remember much of the visit last year ;-) I still had medieval costumes for them, both blue and white, so my husband and I decided to wear blue too. Last year the costumes where too big for them, but this year they were a perfect fit. Handmade by a woman I found on the internet, and just lovely. This years Elfia was earlier in the year than usual, and that meant.. COLD! Especially at ten in the morning. About 5 ºC and a little too cold without a winter coat. I love how immersive Elfia is, from the location at castle Haarzuilens, to the music when you enter the Elfian land of fantasy. We had a great day again, the Geeklings loved looking at all the beautiful people. Highlights are women in big dresses and the furry's, my little one called them mummies at first.. Even the scary looking one got a hug from Evy ;-) We met a family who found a great way to combine cosplay and the transport of their kids, Daltons anyone? A great thing about Elfia is the amount of space. Lots of room to run around outdoors. The food was great as usually, but the meat sticks that visitors love, where missing. But there are some other setbacks. There is basically no shelter from rain or cold. Not great when you need to breastfeed or change a baby either. In previous years there were things for kids to do, but I didn't see that this year, a missed opportunity if you ask me! All in all, my Geeklings didn't mind the minor disappointments, they had a blast, and so did we. I hope for a bit warmer edition next year, and it would be nice if the organization would do more for Geeklings. To make their visit even better. One thing always came up when I talked to parents of other Geeklings at the Dutch Comic Con in March. They all wished there were more products for children. Maybe Geeklings.nl should fill that void? For now, let's focus on the positive :-) Of course, toys are present at any Con, even if a lot are for older Geeks.. But two exhibitors at the Dutch Comic Con sold apparel for children. Star-Tees and Dirtees both sell rompers and shirts for Geeklings. Which you prefer is personal, the costs of a shirt (online) are similar, but the designs vary. I will only share my experience with Dirtees, because I only own Dirtees shirts. The quality of the shirts is great! After lots of wear and washes, they still look good. The cotton is quite thick, which is different from a lot of shirts you buy at big stores these days. The first Dirtees shirts my Geeklings wore, where an Iron Man shirt and a Cookie Monster one. Very fitting for my eldest, who LOVES food. I will never part with them, because they still look great. Maybe even for the next generation? At the latest Comic Con I bought another two shirts. A red Wonder Woman shirt and a brownish baby Groot shirt. Another great thing about the Dirtees shirts, the sizing. They overlap sizes, so you can buy them a bit big and your Geekling can wear them for a long time. My youngest (2yrs old) fell in love with her Wonder Woman shirt immediately. She even cries when she has to take it off in the evening.. So, when on a con, visit Dirtees or Star-Tees and find a cute or badass shirt for your Geekling! Dirtees is also present in movie theaters of Pathé and Kinepolis, especially when a Geek movie premieres. I saw so many amazing Geeklings at the Dutch Comic Con! Have a look at the new generation of geeks, you are awesome! Until next edition (23 and 24 november). This weekend it's Dutch Comic Con again, in my hometown Utrecht. My eldest Geekling Evy loved her visit last time, so naturally I took her with me again. She dressed up as a rainbow fairy, and I decided to go as a the tenth doctor. One thing we both loved was the house of wax, close to the entrance. It's theme was fairytales and everything looked amazing, from witches to princesses, to the emperor without clothes and sleeping beauty.. it had it all. For children I can really recommend the experience hal. I like the set up, with a lot of space to move around and discover everything. Major network Fox was there, but you could also have your picture taken with Dumbo, or as Shazam. At the Powerpuff Girls booth you could design a shirt with a personalized Powerpuff Girl, so we did :-) The smallest size was 116, which was fine (if not a bit big) for my four year old. You can also play card games in this hall, or work a collective painting. Children need supervision under the age of seven, because they take this sh*t seriously! The gaming hall was not for us, but could really be for other boys and girls. In the dealer hal you can find things for everyone. But, it's also one of the most crowded places. I am still amazed that no company specializes in making things for Geeklings. Then again, you can find things like Disney statues, kids shirts and (pluche) toys everywhere. But in the end my Geekling had the most fun by looking at all the Cosplayers. She really liked the Disney princesses again, but adores furries too. They always get a hug from her, and she wants to have her picture taken with them. I am visiting DCC again tomorrow, after that to can expect another report, with pictures of all the sweet, cool and amazing Geeklings I met there! Some ideas you just can't top.. I was in awe when I first found the website My Nerd Nursery. The lady running this site made a lot of cute Geeklings things. She organized a lot of parties in geekstyle. One of them is this amazing Doctor Who Party. She gives suggestions for everything, from the backdrop, to the snacks. Have a look at it, and also check out her other ideas. From popular fandoms like Harry Potter, to Legend of Zelda and Gravity Falls. So if your Geekling has a birthday coming up sometime soon.. There has been a lot to do about Captain Marvel before it came out. Was Marvel just trying to make money by choosing a female hero? Probably.. Marvel is in it to win it, obviously. But I don't have a problem with that. For me it's the result that counts. Is Captain Marvel a decent superhero movie, that adds something to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? And is the female orientated content done well and not too much? And maybe I'm asking too much, but is there a message that you can relate to? That children can relate to? I'll try to answer these questions, starting with the first. (Possible spoilers ahead) Captain Marvel is indeed a decent, and even nice, superhero movie. It is a typical origin story. Carol Danvers tries to figure out who she is and what her place in the universe is. The plot is straightforward, the characters do what you expect them to do. Some people criticize Brie Larsons acting, but I was quite impressed with her talent to portray emotions in a single look. That having said, she is a bit detached. She cares, but there is a certain distance in her emotions. That makes sense though, for reasons I will not spoil here. Where was Alanis? I will not mention all the other characters, but I really liked Jude Law. He does a great job. The young Samuel L. Jackson looks amazing, it didn't bother me at all. The alien make up is done very well too, movement, emotion, it's all there. I also loved all the 90's songs in the movie, although a feminist choice during a fight scene felt a bit too much. Could have done with a bit of Alanis Morissette as well.. Oh, and there are very funny 90's references. But those will not work for the younger fans ;-) But, in itself, the movie doesn't really add anything to the MCU that we were missing. Some backstory maybe, but those nods don't fill plot holes, or connect things that needed connection. It is a nice origin story, that paves the way for more involvement of Captain Marvel. You will not leave the cinema disappointed in that regard.. No chickflick Now, then about the feminist point of view. Captain Marvel has strong female characters, but it doesn't feel like a chickflick. It does show how women feel being put down a lot. In their development, in their aspirations, especially when they want to do a 'mans' job. Other than that men and women are portrait as equal characters, a man might kick a womans ass, and the other way around.. Empathy is a strength I felt there was a bigger message, and I wonder if the male viewers will feel/see that too. *spoilers* In the movie, Captain Marvel is being told to keep emotions out. They will only make her weak. There is no room for empathy, or any other feelings. This is something that really resonates with me as a woman. Girls and women are often seen as too emotional, they nag or cry too much, they exaggerate (think #metoo).. These words are used by men who want to make a woman insecure, or manipulate her. Captain Marvel shows that you can embrace who you are fully, with all your emotions, and how that can make you even stronger. Empathy and intuition are no weakness, they are a strength. For women, and for men! I admit, I have a problem.. Over het last few months I bought a lot of silicone molds. I can't help myself! They are just so versatile, I imagine all the things I can make with them, and buy another one.. You can find a lot of them on Wish, such as the one I'm using here. But Bol.com has several too. At first I used them for cookies only, which had mixed results. Some molds are quite deep, and thick cookies are not always what you want. It gets even more complicated when other molds are not that deep.. some cookies are brown and others still not done, not cool. Making washing up fun! But you can do so much more with them, such as making soap! And that's easier then it seems. Geeklings can help with it (adding color or stirring) and make their own soaps when they are a bit older. And I can guaranty from experience that they will love washing their hands when they made the soap themselves! White or transparent? Okay, making soap, part one. The best way to make soap is to buy soap that is especially made to pour. Have a look around the internet, because prices vary.. The soap can be either white, or transparent, and both have advantages. White soap is not translucent, and that gives the soap a nice effect. Downside.. when the base is white, adding pigment can be tricky. White and red makes pink, not red, white and black makes grey. You can do cool things with transparent soap, such as adding things to the soap, another small mold in a bigger one, glitter, or flowers, the possibilities are endless. You have chosen your soap. Good job ;-) but what colors do you want? And what about scents? It is a bit of an investment the first time, but you only need a few drops of pigment at a time, so a little bit goes a long way. I would recommend buying a set of basic colors, because you can mix the rest. Scents also last a long time, I bought a few, but it's not that important to me. Melting soap is easy, but be careful that it doesn't get too hot. You can either melt the soap au bain marie on a stove, or in short bursts (20 seconds or less at a time) in the microwave. My soap came with a plastic measuring cup, which made using the stove impossible.. but the microwave does a great job. Hurry, hurry Soap doesn't stay in liquid form for long, so make sure you have everything you need ready. Add some color, stir, add scent and pour in the mold. In this case, my Star Trek mold. I wanted my soaps to look like communicators, in black and gold. That turned out to be quite hard. Making white soap black enough took a few tries, and blending colors to get something that looks like gold was also difficult. For a few of the soaps I used two layers. If you want to do this, make sure that the first layer is almost hard, spray that layer with alcohol and add the second layer. Alcohol is very useful when making soap. It kills the bubbles in the soap and makes layers stick, you can buy it in webshops that sell the soap too. So, what do you think of my Star Trek soap? |
